"Culinary Arts is a fun class to be in. It is very different from other classes, it feels a little "edgy". The atmosphere feels good and the people are really nice".
Joshua Auchincloss, Culinary Arts student 2012-13
Shorewood Culinary Arts Garden and Pantry Sale
Wednesday, June 12

This year, the culinary students learned to can and create pretty packaged goods to sell using items from their garden. This is a great way to teach preservation and respect for what they have worked so hard to grow.
This event will raise money to help cover the costs of moving our garden as the district builds us a beautiful new building and we can only take so much with us. Shop for garden plants including; strawberries, lettuce, rhubarb, chives, sage, sorrel, oregano and numerous flowering types that will be uprooted or bulldozed over!
So bring a pot or a bag and the gardeners on hand will help you dig up what you want. Our sale hours are 11am to 1pm.

The Earth Dinner Box Lunch Program

Hosted annually, Earth Dinners spotlight sustainability champions across the country. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Dinners, and the 20th Anniversary of Chefs Collaborative! The first step is to host an Earth Dinner event; the format is up to us. It could be a week long menu item or a one-time event.
Then, Chefs Collaborative and Organic Valley will help us promote our event. The goal is to educate the guests about the environment, and how you elevate sustainability in your daily operations.
This year, Shorewood Culinary Arts students will participate as members of Chefs Collaborative. Our chosen way to participate is through our box lunch program where we will showcase our dedication to sustainability by using ingredients from our Culinary Arts organic, school garden.

History Day in Shoreline and our Box Lunch Program

The Shorewood Culinary Arts students prepared 130 box lunches to feed the judges who worked diligently to read all the papers, and review the large number of exhibits and projects. We thank you for your trust and support year after year.
It's Regional History Day on Wednesday, and students from around King County will descend on the Shoreline Conference Center to strut their historical stuff.
The culmination of a year-long program in which students choose and research a topic, learning historical research principles and strategies, North Puget Sound Regional History Day is part of a national effort to enhance history education and prepare students to become informed and involved citizens.
At the Shoreline regional event, nearly 500 students in grades 6 to 12 will take part by conducting research and presenting their results in one of five categories: exhibits, papers, multi-media documentaries, original performances and websites. They work as individuals or in groups of up to five members.
If you find history interesting and want to participate in next years National History Day, please check out their website:

Comments submitted by our judges...the refreshments were great...how wonderful lunch was...colored ribbons made it easy to tell what the sandwich would be. We had the right proportion of beef/turkey/veggie options. The roast beef was great. The apple salad was crisp and refreshing. And, of course, the cookie (I actually ate two cookies much to my wife's dismay). Thanks for another year of great lunches for our judges.
